Antisepsis is the use of a chemical agent on skin or other living tissue to kill or inhibit microorganisms and prevent infection. In hand hygiene, it means cleaning hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or an antiseptic soap such as chlorhexidine. See Hand Antisepsis.
